Canada Day

Posted by Michael Rawluk (Williams Lake, BC, Canada) on 1 July 2009 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio.

It is Canada Day (used to be Dominion Day) and I thought I would step away from the cliche 'flag' shot. The reason is people equate the flag with patriotic fervour which I find distasteful.
Maybe I will be burned at the stake but Canada Day has many symbols and the need to wrap oneself in a nationalist banner has begun to rank lower on the scale.
Don't get me wrong, I love this country. I wish there were more like it but patriotism is one of the most dangerous forces on Earth.

I appreciate your comments and constructive criticism.
