- A Moment in Photographic History: English photographer John Mayall died Mar 6, 1901. He is the photographer who brought the albumen process from France in 1851. He was well known for shooting the first portrait of Queen Victoria as well as his British Royal Family portraits taken in the 1860s. Go to http://www.rleggat.com/photohistory/history/mayall.htm to read a funny little story about how he handled a client. - A Photographic Quote of Note: A photograph is a most important document, and there is nothing more damning to go down to posterity than a silly, foolish smile caught and fixed forever. - - - - - Mark Twain

It certainly looks that way! Broken dreams and flustered flowers. Excellent image, Michael.

Excellent title and image!

You have captured the sad mood perfectly with this well composed shot!

I don't see the sadness others see. Rather, I see a metaphor for life. Life is not icy or rosy, but both at the same time, always. The honeymoon may be over, but now comes the opportunity to plant beautiful flowers between the ice patches. (can't believe I just rambled that drivel.) :)

Nice title, but before i read ur title i was thinking of "The force of love is melting". I odnt know why, maybe because of the melting ice. LOL, Looks like ice to me.

It has an air of nostalgia for me. Not that this is a rose or faded, but my first reaction was the sentiment from Helen Reddy's "Delta Dawn" -- a faded rose from days gone by...

This is a very strong image. It is well composed and well shot, but I think it goes an extra step in telling a story of its own. Great shot!

We have no ice here, so think it is broken glass when new bride throw groom out window.
Shadow of delicate flower look like evil mouth of bad wolfe of fairy tale so maybe groom threw bride out window in self defense.
Many puzzles to be solved here. Certainly broken lives with glass, with broken stem of flower and crying tears, melting with glass.
What is real story? Probably flower lost out back of flower truck when driver drove over bullock dung after bullock was in china shop, therefore broken glass.

I think it's sad. It looks careless. An exceptional image and interesting thoughts from others. You didn't really say how you felt about it, but from your title, I'd say you found it to be a bit of a let down.
