The name of their nation was Anglicized to Chilcotin. I believe these guys were from the Tl'etinqox band. They were fishing at Farewell Canyon catching salmon in September, 1976. Notice the rope around his waist to prevent him from being dragged into the raging water. This was shot on Kodachrome. - A Moment in Photographic History: The notable photographer Eugene Atget was born February 12, 1857. He documented much of the architecture of Paris shortly to be demolished. - A Photographic Quote of Note: I was invited to photograph Hollywood. They asked me what I would like to photograph. I said, "Ugly men." - - - - Imogen Cunningham

Wow! A great scan! Love that Kodachrome! Fantastic detail! Imogen Cunningham was a gas! I had the pleasure of speaking with her back in the 70's. I also bought one of her prints that I still cherish today!

Wow, I can see how the canyon would be called Farewell :-) anyone falling in would be gone in a flash. Terrific perspective!

Hmmm, net fishing... at least that's what it looks like. Great capture Michael! And it did scan beautifully. That is one amazing canyon. Such depth and rugged beauty.

It's a dramatic looking yet barren landscape. The historical background is fascinating too.....aren't your local museums interested in this kind of record photo?

Quite an amazing way of life and a great capture. This is what you were doing in 1976. Amazing when I think back to m 1976. I do hope these people have a better method of fishing by now.
