Preparing for the year

I have been preparing for the coming year by going through books and websites looking for interesting historical bits for each day. I probably won't manage to find something for each day but . . .
First, the name. We owe the name "Photography" to Sir John Herschel , who first used the term in 1839, the year the photographic process became public.
The word is derived from the Greek words for light and writing.
