For many people you are right with your comment about the mercantile approach to Christmas, but we can all try to influence those around us to at least slow down the consumer madness....
It's not ALL about profit. Some of it is about food! Ha ha. Wish I could slip a turkey sandwich through the Internet to you. It's also about love and remembering. But I see your point.
The true meaning of Christmas has always been profit. The only thing that's changed is that corporations are now trying to get a piece of what the Church has taken advantage of for centuries.
Well said, Michael. I'm sorry to say, but I still heartily believe the true culprit is still human nature. I can't help but add to the discussion too, from experience of my own culture and history, that if we (rightly so) are disgusted by the profit motives that are driving Christmas nowadays, don't even start to think about Chinese New Year !! ;)
