I admit to returning to the same spot time after time attempting to capture what I see and, time after time, failing. Am I the only one. Do you return and fail?
I appreciate your comments and constructive criticism.

I believe we learn after each mistake. I don't think the photo above is a mistake though!

Haha, yes, I get frustrated by this too. But I also agree with the comment above ... this doesn't look like a mistake. It's got a very somber image with a good vantage point. I like how you've used a slow shutter speed to get the water nice and smooth.

You are not the only one. I find that I have a vision sometimes and I really have to work hard to get it. Other times, I return with fresh eyes and a fresh mind to find a different way to shoot a scene.
I think all create people experience this in one way or another. I do it with the songs I write as well. I wrote one song over a period of almost twenty years.
You are not alone.
Great shot BTW.

Yes, Michael, the human being is the unique one who is able to encounter twice over the same stone! LOL. But here not because you say that you are failing? ;)

Lovely work, perhaps you fail to capture what you have in mind but none the less its a beautiful shot.

I get exactly the same issues as yourself Michael, even to the extent that I get so frustrated at my lack of ability to capture the image I see before me that I consider giving up taking photos..... then the next day, often by accident rather than planning, I'll end up with a photo that I really like and which makes all the frustration worth while. As long as I can feel that I making some progress, however slight, I guess I'll keep at it - its an obsession by now really! In the 6 months or so that I've been taking photos I can count on one hand the number of photos where I planned to shoot something a certain way and I ended up with a photo that I was really pleased with!

@Ian Bramham: I guess maybe when you are always satisfied with what you shoot, that is the time to get rid of the camera.
nice tones here, the low contrast seems to bring out the atmosphere in the scene

Without knowing what you were trying to capture, I can't say you failed here. It's a lovely image with an air of mystery. Hmmm, what does this day have in store for us? As to returning to places for a photograph, I find that the images I "try" to get, those for which I plan, are never as good as those which just happen -- serendipity.

I'm sure we all have that problem Michael... I know I do. I'm forever rethinking after I get home and kicking myself for not trying it another way (and of course the other way doesn't occur to me 'till I get home.. sigh.. LOL) However, this image is truly wonderful with the mystery of the fog and the scale of the bridge. Well done!! If you still haven't gotten what you want I can't wait to see how you could improve on this one..
